Services
This department started functioning as a skeleton unit when VHS was started in 1963. It has now grown into a fully staffed as well as a teaching department of the hospital. The following are the services of the department:
Functions 6 days in a week from 9.00 a.m to 1.00 p.m. |

Attends to emergencies 24 x 7 |

Super-speciality services like Plastic Surgery, Urology, and Neurosurgery conduct regular Outpatient services |

There is a Post-operative ward to attend to major cases in the immediate post-operative period and also seriously ill cases, apart from the regular/ICU facilities. |

Fully equipped with state-of-the-art operation theatres (5 regular and 1 septic OT) are equipped to deal with emergencies / trauma and routine surgical cases. |

Laparoscopic surgical facilities are also available with experienced surgeons manning them. |

Fully equipped general wards, special wards, and deluxe wards are available. |
The Department has been maintaining regular academic training of post-graduate (Diplomate of National Board) students every year, apart from surgical training for dental students (BDS) as part of their curriculum, and also gives hands-on training to nursing students of the VHS - M.A. Chidambaram Nursing College located in the campus
