The underlying ethos of VHS is that of prevention and cure of serious illnesses, fostering of the family as a unit for medical care, and facilitating active community participation in the provision of a continuum of health care, with special reference to disadvantaged groups such as women, children and elderly. Serving to the requirements of the poor and middle class based on their clinical needs rather than their ability to pay for the services is one of the most important missions of VHS. VHS also responsibly contributes to the human resources of the country through various training programmes and camps conducted by experienced staff.
